Job Descriptions: Video game artists perform many tasks in the visual design of games. Some of the aspects of a game that they work on are creating concept art and storyboarding, designing characters, 3D modeling and texturing, animation, and environmental design. Another role that these artists have is to integrate the design into the actual code of the game. Since there are so many varying aspects of designing a game, game artists often are assigned roles that focus on one of these categories.

Credentials: To enter the field of video game design, people often need a bachelor's degree in graphic design, multimedia design, or video game design. Through these degrees, they  learn about computer design, 2D and 3D animation, software engineering, and other useful skills for the field of work.

Schools Programs: A variety of colleges offer multimedia design and graphic design, which are useful majors for someone who wants to become a video game artist. A degree in video game design is also useful, but it is less common for schools to offer this as a specific degree. Some of the top schools for a multimedia design major in the United States are Carnegie Mellon University School of Design, New York University – Steinhardt, and the University of Georgia.
