This week, we went to the Visual Arts Center to look at the gold and silver key art from the Scholastic Art competition. A big pattern in many of the works that I saw there was that they had bright colors that really created an atmosphere in the work as well as being attention grabbing. The paintings that were especially atmospheric were the ones that used a lot of warm colors. Many of the works were also objective. Personally, I thought that some of the most compelling works were the ones that incorporated unique materials. I saw a few examples of embroidery being used in work which I really liked. There were not as many sculptures in the show, but one that I really liked was a set of wire sculptures. They were made of a thin wire that was kind of wispy looking and I thought that the way the wire was used gave the work a lot of energy. Overall, it was really interesting to be able to see what other high schoolers were doing.
