For my at-home project, I am going to be working on some of "The Art Assignments." The first one I am going to do is about how the color white changes when put next to other white colors and put in different lightings. I have begun to think about the specific object I want to use by drawing out my composition in my sketchbook, but I need to get all of the objects together and just work out the composition that way over the next week. Mainly, I've been thinking about some of the materials I want to use. I want to convey the clean feel of the color, but in a comforting way which makes me think of water, which I want to include in the work. One thing that I felt might tie into that is painting on a mirror since it has the clear look that water does. I experimented with this over the past weeks and I like how painting on a smooth surface affects how it feels to paint, but I am not completely certain that the mirror will add to the work without knowing my final composition, so I need to work on this.
These are some pictures of the tests I did. (Painting on a smooth glass/plastic surface and laying out what it might look like if I put something on top of a mirror.) When I do the actual painting, I think that I'm going to paint over more of the mirror. I also want to see if I can find a different shaped mirror instead of a square or I might even use the glass/plastic piece that I practiced on since that's a rectangle (which I like better than a square).
