Ernesto Neto is a sculptor and an instilation artist. He was born in 1964 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and he currently works. He studied at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage from 1994 and 1997 and Brazil Museu de Arte Moderna from 1994 to 1996. His first solo exhebition was at Petit Galerie in 1988. His work has also been shown at the Hirshhorn, and the Guggenheim, and he has won awards for the Best Show in a Public Space from USA-AICA, the Central Art Prize in Cologne, Germany, and the Prêmio Brasília de Artes Plásticas from the Museu de Arte de Brasília.
Ernesto Neto's work explores the constructions of social spaces through instilations that incourage the viewer to enter and inhabit it. Some art movements that he pulls from are Biomorphism the Neo-concrete movement. His works incorperate many organic shapes and materials like sand, shells, and spices.

One of the things that I really like about his work is the way that the materials have been stretched to make different shapes. This adds some tension to the piece, and also helps to make some of the organic shapes. Part of what is impactful about these pieces is the scale of the instilation. The tension and stretched aspects of the pieces also make them feel like they represent a moment in time. Another factor that contributes to this how in Instillation view, Fondation Beyeler, there are spices spilled onto the floor.
